Beginning The Journey

December 6, 2014

Welco me to my site and thoughts. When contemplating starting this journey I have had many thoughts, ideas and views that ran around my head. I chose the title “figtreethoughts” as a reflection of thos passages of scripture where fig trees were mentioned in relation to encounters with God,such as John 2:43-51; Genesis 3:7;
Mark 11:12-13, 20-25 and many other references. Perhaps you would like to look them up and discuss them here. The fig tree is one of the symbols of faithful Israel and these passages cause me to ponder, think, reflect and seek to develop a relationship with God.

I am not claiming any superior revelation or knowledge, just a grounded, faithful pilgrim seeking to understand the one who has been known to me for over forty years. I have only one policy on this site, please feel free to discuss any subject matter but if your attitude is a blatant dismissiveness of Christianity and all you want to do is claim a superior position of denial then go somewhere else. I am happy to dialogue with anyone who genuinely is open to the idea of the possibility of a dynamic living God. I am happy to be proven wrong, in ideas, along the way. Who knows I will learn some things too from interacting with you. I am not open to outright belligerence and closed mindedness, as the person is already set in their ways.

Following Jesus is a relationship of discovery. Paul Bunyan wrote Pilgrim’s Progress, and I believe it is no accident that he chose the title. We are all pilgrims on a journey and when we get there we will know the truth, I believe that is the other side of the grave and therefore this side it is a journey of discovery and interaction with Jesus through the empowering work of the Holy Spirit. Roman 1:14-17 (if you look up this passage try Tom Wright’s “The New Testament for Everyone” translation, a most compelling read.)

Blessings to all and may our journey be a fruitful one.
Paul Warren
